Hemming by Hand at Old Flame Mending Mon, Jun 23rd, 6-9pm
Learn to hem! If you have a garment that is too long in the length, legs, or sleeves, we can help you learn how to shorten it to fit your body properly.
The first half of the class will focus on measuring, pressing, and two different types of hems: backstitch and invisible (aka “blind”). All stitching will be done by hand. During the second half of the class, participants will have the opportunity to measure + begin to stitch their own garments in need of shortening.
Recommended garments: woven materials, pj pants, linen, cotton, medium weight garments, jeans, a favorite t-shirt.
Not recommended: coats, sweaters, knits, leather, complex construction (ie a button down shirt with a curved hem and cuffs), garments with a lining, formalwear.
Ticket includes materials: thread, snips, tailors chalk, a ruler, a seam ripper, needles, and a thimble, which will come in a kit for participants to take home. Communal fabric scissors and an ironing board will also be provided.
