Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I find you? Do you have a shop?
We do not currently have a shop, but we have a studio space in Lawrenceville Radiant Hall in Pittsburgh! You can come here to drop off your order to us, or you can mail your mends to the studio if you can't make it to our studio. We're also offering pickup options at your home, which you can schedule here.

What is your turnaround time?
For most pieces, we guarantee a 2 week turn around. For larger projects (i.e. lots of holes/ patches), the turnaround time may be 1-2 months.

How much does it cost to get something mended?
We price every mend individually, taking into account our time, materials, and type of mend. If you'd like to inquire about pricing for a specific piece, you may reach out to us at oldflamemending@gmail.com.
Currently, we have set prices for the following:
Standard pants hem- $20
Sew on a button- $4 if you bring a button/ $5 if you need a button
Crotch repair on denim typically runs $15-30, but may be a little more costly if the tears are extreme.
Darning holes- starts at $5 per hole, but may be more costly if the holes are larger than average.

Do I pay at drop-off or pickup?
As a policy, we must take payment at drop-off. If an individual item costs more than $100, we offer payments to be split 50/50 at drop-off and pickup; you can also request to be sent an invoice for the remaining balance.

What payment types do you accept?
We take credit/debit cards, personal checks, and cash!
*a $1 processing fee will be added for card transactions.

Can you sew leather and/or suede?
Yes! We have quite a few machines that can sew through almost anything.

Can you fix fur pieces?
We can hand sew a simple rip in the lining or pocket of fur pieces, but we do not sew fur or do any restoration. It is best to reach out to a fur repair specialist, who would have the expertise and equipment that we do not have.

Do you replace zippers?
We are not offering zipper replacement at this time, due to the amount of time, materials, and machine attachments necessary. We may do this in the future~ stay tuned!

Do you teach private mending lessons?
We are unable to offer one-on-one lessons at this time. However, prior to Covid, we offered group classes in various locations in the city. Hopefully this is something we will be able to offer in the future. In the meantime, check out Cut and Sew Studio's classes!
