Purpose
Every textile has a story, and we want to help you keep your pieces intact. Fabric is emotional, with a deep human element spanning millennia. Fabric not only protects human bodies from the elements of the natural world but can also signify belonging, express personal style, or evoke memory of familial connection. However, the noise of fast fashion can drown out the human element; not only in a figurative way but also in a human rights aspect. The textile industry in America has a history that is tightly connected to the enslavement of Black people. People all across the globe work in dangerous and inhumane conditions to deliver cheap clothing to to the richest nations.
The clothing and textile industry is also one of the largest polluters in the world (second to oil). As we think about the fashion industry’s role in the climate crisis, we want to provide a service that makes even a tiny dent in textile waste instead of contributing to it. Through extending the life cycle of textiles, we are adding value to the pieces you already own.
Special thanks to Rebekah, Kelly, and Rona of Make + Matter.

Who we are
We are Rebecca Harrison and Tia Tumminello, two makers who have been sewing our fingers off for years. We met while working at an organic grocery store, but bonded over thrifting and crafting. In Spring of 2019, we decided to team up and form Old Flame Mending.

Rebecca has a BFA in Fibers from SCAD, and work experience with clothing and textiles in a range of settings, from an alpaca farm to personal styling to costume design for theater. Her work in a tailoring and alterations shop has helped inform our business model, as well as some of our alterations processes.

Tia is a talented sign maker and graphic designer; in addition to co-running the business, she designs our print material and hand paints all of our signs.
